Nikki South is the founder and principal of Southmarc Architecture, a practice that began twenty years ago in Hong Kong Island with a project that would become The Beaconsfield Townhouses—winner of an Architecture Award in the 2008 NSW Architecture Awards for Multiple Housing.

Formally established in 2004 after a decade working with boutique practices across Sydney, Munich, London, and Hong Kong, Southmarc Architecture has carved its own path. Rather than following the conventional trajectory from residential to commercial to public projects, Southmarc has remained devoted to residential architecture—the scale where design intersects most intimately with everyday life.

A registered architect and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), Nikki brings a global perspective and local understanding to every project. Nikki’s commitment to thoughtful, well-made architecture that defines the practice—buildings that give to those who live within them and contribute meaningfully to the urban fabric around them.

Nikki's interest in travel and art enriches her architectural thinking, offering perspective and insight into the physical qualities of buildings. Now, with her children older and the practice poised for growth, she's ready to expand Southmarc's impact while staying true to the values that have guided it from the beginning: innovation, collaboration, and the belief that designing buildings is serious work—and also something to be enjoyed.
